Micaela Van Rensburg
Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary
Micaela’s love for movement was discovered in a pair of figure skates when she was 4 years old in northern British Columbia. She began her ballet, jazz and modern training 7 years later on Vancouver Island at Kirkwood Academy of Performing Arts where she danced for 8 years. During her time there, Micaela performed many roles in the biannual production of the Nutcracker including Clara, Mirlitons, Snow Queen, and the Rat Queen. She also loved participating in regional dance competitions and was chosen to compete at the provincial level for Stage and Ballet for 3 consecutive years. Micaela was recognized as the top highest scoring soloist at the Nanaimo CoreDance competition for her lyrical jazz solo in 2012, and 3rdhighest scoring soloist for her lyrical ballet solo in 2013. In 2013 she also received distinction for her Advanced 2 ballet exam.
As a senior dancer, Micaela grew into a leadership role at the studio. At 16, she was a substitute teacher for ballet and jazz classes and offered choreography and tutoring for young soloists. After high school, Micaela went on to receive her BSc in Biology from Trinity Western University, graduating with great distinction in the spring of 2018. During her studies, she was the coordinator of the university dance team and continued to take ballet class off campus. New to Ontario, Micaela is excited to have found a studio to continue pursuing her love of dance and hopes to share this passion with her students at 5678.
